Isotope foi uma banda de jazz-rock formada pelo guitarrista Gary Boyle e que balançava entre o Canterbury, ao estilo da Soft Machine e da Nucleus, e o fusion da Return to Forever que estava fazendo barulho no além-mar.
Gary Boyle tocava com Brian Auger quando pegou o vírus do prog e decidiu voltar para a escola e aprimorar seus conhecimentos. Esse objetivo ele alcançou, já que em 74 ele foi eleito o terceiro melhor guitarrista da Inglaterra.

So sad that Boyle lost the fire / edge he possessed in the 3 Isotope records, The Dancer & Electric Glide. All he does now is crap....

I love this blog and have found loads of stuff I had never heard of before, some of which has been really great to hear. I don't actually need any of the Isotope or Gary Boyle since I have it all on vinyl or CD. I saw Isotope supporting PFM back in 70s and chatted with Gary afterwards and then started buying their albums (that they made no money from as the income only paid off recording costs). I met Gary again in 2000 at a gig in Manchester and he sent me copies of his albums that I hadn't got although most of them are now available one way or another. This was an amazing and very underrated band and Gar Boyle is really nice guy as well as being a great guitarist and composer.
